Harwich Cultural Districts

The Harwich Center and the Harwich Port Cultural Districts received their designation in January 2023. Thanks to the Massachusetts Cultural Council this effort helps the Town of Harwich advance economic vitality as well as celebrate, preserve and inspire creativity throughout our town. The Cultural Districts are overseen by the Department of Cultural Affairs for the Town, the Cultural Affairs Department strives to creative creative tourism and to support all cultural and arts activities within the Town of Harwich.

The Town of Harwich is known as a resort town and agricultural community located on the South Side of the Cape peninsula with an extensive shoreline on Nantucket Sound. Harwich has a rich and diverse mix of cultural, recreational, and historic assets complemented by our vibrant retail, gallery, and restaurants amenities. Our parking, public restrooms and tourist information facilities are critical for our visitors. The Cultural Facilities and parks host musical performances, public art, and many creative resources.

The Harwich Center Cultural District includes numerous historic facilities in a compact and navigable area, such as important historical assets, small unique retail and restaurants, pocket parks, and a large municipal park. The 204 Cultural Arts Municipal Building is a repurposed middle school which is now the vibrant home for over 30 artists and creators and the scene for various musical and recreational activities.

The Harwich Port Cultural District is a main street with a mix of commercial uses, including retail, restaurants, and galleries. It also includes Art in Park, Port Nights, and our Seaside Marketplace that are the summer hot spot for visiting artists.
